Cesine History

  • 1993

    CESINE was founded as the Escuela de Negocios under the name of “Escuela Superior de Informática y Negocios” with the undergraduate programme of Business Administration and Management.

  • 1994

    -The first CESINE headquarters was inaugurated on the 29th September on the Paseo de Pérez Galdós Street, which also meant the recovery of an emblematic building for our city.
    -The Information Technology programme was started.
    -The first issue of the Cesine News was published in December which gathered the most relevant news of the Centre.

  • 1995

    -CESINE Bachelor honors programmes are validated and awarded by the University of Wales
    -The Department of Company Training and Professional Careers, keeping the Centre´s synergy with firms as its goal by way of signing agreements with business organisations and leading firms in the region such as CEOE-CEPYME, Banco Santander, Alcatel, Solvay, La Caixa, Ascensores IMEN, Derivados del Flúor, El Diario Montañés, Sidenor.

  • 1996

    -CESINE acquired a new building of some 800 m2 in the Paseo Menéndez Pelayo Street. Integral renovation was carried out and in October this new headquarters was inaugurated while keeping the Pérez Galdós site as well.
    This new building has advanced installations which allow for a greater number of students to study at the Escuela.

  • 1997

    -CESINE established a joint venture with ESIC, Escuela Superior de Gestión Comercial y Marketing so as to give the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management in Santander.
    -The 1st Promotion of Business Administration graduated.
    -The I Encounter of International Commerce that has the participation of a number of experts from Spain and France. They reviewed the results of an ambitious work on the Cantabrian Exporting Firms, led by the Professor Dr. Javier Beltrán de Heredia and carried out by the 4th year BBA students

  • 1998

    -CESINE obtains the official authorisation by the Education Ministry of the Government of Cantabria in February. This is in accord with R.D. 557/1991, which regulates the creation of Universities and University Centres.
    -The 4th year ITE students carry out End-of-Studies Project in relevant firms and this means that applicable novelty IT developments are actually applied in the different organisations.
    -CESINE carries out an ambitious study for the Federation of Businessmen on the detection of the expectations, needs and trends of businessmen and self-employed individuals from Santander and the surrounding areas.

  • 1999

    -The Regional Government of Cantabria, through the Education and Youth Ministry, passes a resolution on the 12th February 1999, which is the definitive authorisation license allowing CESINE to offer the undergraduate study programmes of Business Administration and Information Technology.
    -CESINE is a finalist of the International Award “Entrepeneur of the Year”, hosted by the La Caixa, Ernst &Young and the IESE in which 171 relevant national and international firms participate. This prestigious award granted to CESINE recognises all those firms that have been successful.
    -The 1st Cesine Forum on New Firms is set up which is an initiative in order to overcome the financial difficulties young entrepreneurs come across when first starting out. A jury of experts evaluate firm –creation projects carried out by senior BBA students.

  • 2000

    -Up to this date the Company Training Department has signed 200 agreements in relevant firms and institutions which guarantee that 100% of its students will undergo a broad labour experience.
    -The Department of Professional Opportunities doubles the figure of job offers managed by CESINE.

  • 2001

    -Agreement between CESINE and American University of Washington, a prestigious American university that offers CESINE students the possibility of doing company training in multinational firms and organisms such as UN, Department of Treasury, Chamber of Commerce, Deloitte and Touche, Oracle Corporation,...
    -CESINE, with its marked innovative spirit, implements a new system of e-learning on its Website which is pioneer in Spain. It supports the on-site teaching and improves the professor-student relationship and incorporates an entire series of tools for the students use such as virtual tutorials, news service, topic forums, digital library, digital bulletin, notes and downloadable material, etc.

  • 2002

    -Inauguration of the new CESINE headquarters. An intelligent building that has a very vanguard and innovative design and whose 5,000 m2. campus has some of the most technologically advanced installations in Europe.
    - The Master in Business Administration –MBA- is started. It is developed together with the La Caixa and offers labour experience to its participants.

  • 2003

    -CESINE starts the Industrial Design and Multimedia Engineering degree programme which is authorised by the Education Ministry of the Regional Government of Cantabria by way of resolution on October 14, 2003.
    -More than 350 firms participate in the Cesine training programmes. The Training Department managed 608 training sessions this year for 100% of the students.

  • 2004

    -CESINE starts the Business Administration Programme, Executive version, which is designed for those professionals that need to reinforce their CV with a university degree so as to better their professional development.

  • 2005

    -The Advertising and Multimedia Degree Programme is started. The undergraduate programme authorised by the Education Council of the Government of Cantabria by way of resolution dated 1st July, 2005.

    -The Industrial Design and Multimedia Engineering Programme stands out as one of the most widely demanded careers in Europe since there is a great need for firms to have these specialists.

    -Dirigentes, the Spanish magazine awards Cesine with the “Liderazgo” (Leadership) Award, that was given by the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Ángel Revilla to the Centre General director, Fermín Gutiérrez.

  • 2006

    -In 2006 the Ministry of Education and Science has decided to validate the CESINE – University of Wales degrees to the level of licenciado or ingeniero, of those students that have finished their Business Administration and information technology degree programmes. This means that full recognition is given to their degrees according to current legislation, equating them to those degrees given at the Spanish public universities. The Industrial Design and Multimedia Engineering, together with the Advertising and Marketing graduates will be able to receive their validations, upon conclusion of their studies, starting in 2007.

    -The CESINE ex alumni are fully employed according to a survey carried out by the Department of Career Outlooks in February 2006.

    -The Practical Training Department reached the record figure of 800 training sessions this year which allows for up to 2,500 total remunerated training hours in firms. 80% of the students end up being hired by the firms where they do their training.

    -CESINE opens its doors with students from other countries and Spanish regions. In recent years the University Centre has undergone an important process of internationalisation by being present in the university that were held in other Spanish Communities and in countries such as Colombia, Mexico and Norway. So 20% of Cesine students come from outside Cantabria.

  • 2007

    -CESINE began to offer the Master in Golf Business Management and Direction. This Master is given together with Integral Golf Design, the firm of José María Olazábal, the Ramón Sota Foundation and the Cantabrian Federation of Golf.

    The professional skills to be covered by those who enroll in the course include, among others, golf club or course management, management of marketing and firms specialized in golf, federation technicians, golf complexes firms, assessment, commercial promotion or management and communication or public relations.
