3rd year IT Computer Engineering students from the Cesine University Center, (led by Julio Arrébola, Professor of the Cell Phone IT Department, have developed a new mobile phone application that aims to help golfers, especially amateurs, or advanced players at a new course. This is a research project at an experimental stage in which a group of Cesine University Center students worked on for about 10 months. It has been recently presented to professionals in the sport of Golf to test their performance characteristics and in situ.
This application, named Cesine-Caddy has been presented to the Cantabrian Royal Golf Federation and tested in the 9 hole golf course by Manuel Garrido, the Mataleñas Club Santander player.
The presentation was attended by the president of FCG, Jesus Rodriguez Rey, and the director of golf Mataleñas, Miguel Raba. Joining them were the CEO of Cesine, Fermin Gutierrez and the teacher and students who have developed this application that was described by those present as "extraordinary."
All about Golf in a cell phone
The application submitted is a software tool for those mobile phones that have GPS (although some without it can also be used), which allows one to follow the course of a game that gives players the distance information to the holes, number of shots taken as well as historical ones. All this occurs while satellite imagery shows the hole being played. It is supplemented by a detailed game card which is similar to traditional on but on the mobile screen. This card can be the current player’s card or that of other potential players involved in the game.
In each case the mobile can determine the distance to the hole, and the meters travelled by the ball in a shot. Depending on the field, the hole and the distance of the ball, the application chooses to use the golf club. The player has to enter the hole being played, the player's handicap and clubs with which to play. In addition, the software contains the basic rules of golf that will help the player to improve his game on the course.
The software Cesine-Caddy also shows a simulation of the game screen. The player to develop the game has to select the course, select the hole and the names of the players if it is a shared item. The application allows one to simulate the game. To do so a map with statistics appears, and through a shot simulation which marks the best trajectory of the ball. The application has a zoom for expanding the field and seeing the exact point where we are playing, as well as a history of games played.
